Having announced ‘Gympanzees’ as the new regional charity partner in February, fundraising for such an amazing cause became priority for everyone at the Ascot Group. An adventurous team of Ascot Group members soon assembled to take on the most popular trekking challenge in the UK – the three peak challenge. Across the 16-week training period, the team worked tirelessly to prepare for the mammoth task with the shared goal of helping Gympanzees provide young people and children with disabilities access to fun and fitness.
The three peak challenge requires participants to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The team were tasked to hike a marathon distance whilst also ascending over 3000 metres of elevation – a feat which required plenty of grit, determination and many flapjacks.
Despite some team members dealing with injury, they completed the challenge within the time limit and raised over £3200 for Gympananzees. This amazing achievement will help contribute towards Gympanzees’ ‘Project Home’ appeal for a permanent centre, which will support the 66,000 disabled children and young people within an hour of Bristol get the exercise and sensory integration they need.
