Andrew Scott, Ascot Group CEO, was among the respected business leaders invited to join the Evo Business’ Future of North Somerset networking event.
The meeting, which was held at the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, brought together local businesses, political figures, and community leaders to discuss the challenges facing the local area and the opportunities ahead. Members of the panel included MP John Penrose, James Short CB OBE, and Director at High Growth Knowledge company, Weston Placemaking Manager at North Somerset Council Richard Blows, Michelle Michael MBE owner of the Grand Pier, and John Turner, CEO of Visit Somerset.
As an award-winning entrepreneur, investor, business speaker, and founder of the Ascot Group, Andrew was able to bring his wealth of experience, knowledge, passion, and creative ideas to the table.
During the networking event, discussions turned to the development of the North Somerset region and plans for the year ahead, and Andrew shared his ambitions for the area.
“People can see the potential growth in the region but not in Weston-super-Mare. Even though the town is located next to the motorway, our office is next to a train station, and we’re only 25 minutes from an airport,” comments Andrew.
“I think this hub and this location is unique in comparison to other areas in the country, and we should be focusing much more in terms of developing business here. We should look at creating more cutting-edge companies, in the technology and media sectors, across the South West.
“Even though the tourist economy is very important to Weston, we’re missing a huge trick and opportunity in the area. We see such a different perspective from our location next to Worle train station.
“As much as it is important to look at a small town, I think there’s a bigger opportunity in terms of our location in the UK and perhaps we should take a wider perspective on technology, and merging technologies in North Somerset.”
